I wanted to write you a kiss, but I was married
to matted hair meets consummate courage.
I wanted to write you a kiss, but breath known
on my nape became fingers submerged in sand.
I wanted to write you a kiss, but I was knowing
a mouthful of cake; licking icing off your thighs.
I wanted to write you a kiss, but when I closed
my eyes it was sweat drizzled over collar bones.
I wanted to write you a kiss, but some wild geese
gliding over a pond became you coming over me.
I wanted to write you a kiss, unknown as in water,
as in waves, as in held in each other's arms,
but I got stuck in my head, the knower of all.

I don't think a girl should ever accept less than this out of a relationship.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a fulfilling experience to read you, goddess of poetry, love, and lust. I don't have an ounce of jealousy in me that you can do this and I can't --- I'm just so glad that you do.
That’s a charming sentiment! Thank you so much for enjoying and sharing the love
DeleteLove should always be a mouth full of cake!! I enjoyed your poem!
ReplyDeleteCake isn’t just for birthdays. Thanks Annell
DeleteI think it was Catie Curtis who sang about the kiss that counted. That's the kind that blows all thought out of a person's head....the best kind.
ReplyDeleteYou always give me more to chew. Will look up Catie. Thanks!
DeleteI like the idea of writing a kiss. Also, the repetition of "I wanted to write you a kiss," excuses, excuses. With those SIX "but's". Made me smile, :-)
ReplyDelete..
Jim, I didn’t even realize it was 6 ‘but’s’. 6 is my old time favorite number
ReplyDeleteThis is a poem to fall into and drown.. and make me put down my pen for ever.
ReplyDeleteYour comment made me laugh Kerry:-) You are the most classical poetic pen I know. Don't put it down!
DeleteWOW! This is a spectacular poem! Oh, those wild geese flying over a pond!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness this is absolutely beautiful!!❤️ I love “as in held in each other’s arms.” Thank you so much for adding your voice to the prompt 😊
ReplyDeleteThank you for the lovely prompt Sanaa. Celebrating some fashion of love is what poetry is all about.
